New Years Eve and Live bullets don't mix

Shooting a Gun into the Air on New Years Eve is Dangerous

The following incidents happened in the US alone.

And these are only the most notable according to Wikepedia.com
.

  • January 1, 2010: A 4 year old boy, Marquel Peters, was struck by a bullet inside his church The Church of God of Prophecy in Decatur, GA. It is presumed the bullet may have penetrated the roof of the church around 12:20AM, fatally wounding the boy.[24]
  • December 28, 2005: A 23-year-old U.S. Army private on leave after basic training fired a 9 mm pistol into the air in celebration with friends, according to police, and one of the bullets came through a fifth-floor apartment window in the New York City borough of Queens, striking a 28-year-old mother of two in the eye. Her husband found her lifeless body moments later. The shooter had been drinking the night before and turned himself in to police the next morning when he heard the news. He was charged with second-degree manslaughter and weapons-related crimes,[25][26] and was later found guilty and sentenced to four to 12 years in prison.[27]
  • December 31, 2004: A 75-year-old man in Orlando, Florida, was mortally wounded in the heart from a falling bullet just before midnight. Police later traced the fatal bullet to a gun confiscated from a man firing into the air more than a mile away. The shooter was charged with manslaughter.[28][dead link]
  • December 31, 1994: A tourist from Boston was killed by a falling bullet from celebratory firing while walking on the Moonwalk in the French Quarter of New OrleansLouisiana. The Police Department there has been striving to educate the public on the danger since then, frequently making arrests for firing into the air.[29][dead link]

hmmm... what was I thinking

Have you ever looked at your Google Circles and found that you have put someone as a friend that probably wouldn't call you that?

Well Morgan Freeman is in my friend's circle. Now as much as I would like him to be a personal friend, I don't think he feels the same way.

Oh well.

Morgan keep doing your great job.

Oh and call me once and while to shoot the breeze, after all that is what friends are for.

Wishful thinking.

Obma and the Queen's Riddle

 The Queen's Riddle

Barack Obama met with the Queen of England.

He asked her, "Your Majesty, how do you run such an efficient government?  What tips can you give to me?"

"Well," said the Queen, "the most important thing is to surround yourself with intelligent people."

Obama frowned, and then asked, "But how do I know the people around are really intelligent?"

The Queen took a sip of tea.  "Oh, that's easy; you just ask them to answer an intelligent riddle."

The Queen pushed a button on her intercom.  "Please send Tony Blair in here, would you?"

Tony Blair walked into the room and said, "Yes, Your Majesty?"

The Queen smiled and said, "Answer me this please, Tony, your mother and father have a child.  It is not your brother and it is not your sister.

        Who is it?"

Without pausing for a moment, Tony Blair answered, "That would be me."

"Yes!  Very good," said the Queen.

Obama went back home to ask Joe Biden, his vice presidential choice the same question.  "Joe, answer this for me. Your mother and your father have a child.

It's not your brother and it's not your sister.  Who is it?"

"I'm not sure," said Biden. "Let me get back to you on that one."  He went to his advisors and asked every one, but none could give him an answer

Finally, Biden ran into Sarah Palin out eating one night.  Biden asked, "Sarah, can you answer this for me?  Your mother and father have a child and it's not your brother or your sister.  Who is it?"

Sarah Palin answered right back, "That's easy, it's me!"

Biden smiled, and said, "Thanks!"  Then, he went back to speak with Obama. "Say, I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle.  It's Sarah Palin!"

Obama got up, stomped over to Biden, and angrily yelled into his face, "No!  You idiot!  It's Tony Blair!"

AND THAT IS PRECISELY WHAT'S GOING ON AT THE WHITE HOUSE ?

Happy Birthday Dad

Yesterday my Dad would have been 76.

God took him 2 years ago on the 4th of November.

He wasn't perfect.

He made mistakes.

But in the end, he redeemed himself.

Happy Birthday Dad.

Remembering my Dad

In two weeks my Dad will have been gone 2 years.

But unlike most other people, I reflect on odd facts that connect my dad and I.

My parents got married when they were both 18 years old.

They had to get permission from their parents.

They did so by telling their respective families that my mother was with child.

2 Years later I was born.

Many years have passed since then.

2 years after his death my first child has come into the world.

My dad would be 76.

I turned 18 in 76.

I know it is probably silly to look at things this way, but I have another wrinkle to add to this post.

I got married prior to my first child.

I was told when I was in my 30s that I could not produce a child.

I am , nevertheless, a proud new father.

Thanks Dad... I think..

That's all for now...Go forth and do well.

Shane.

I grew up in Minnesota in the 1960s and 1970s.

I went to my Grandparent's in White Bear Lake, Minnesota every summer.

Many lakes are in and around White Bear Lake.

My Grandparents lived on, one the smaller ones,  Birch Lake.

We would often drive around the towns namesake on errands with Grandma.

It sparkling waters seemingly calling me to join the countless others having fun on her waters.

So I was sad to read in the article on the link below about White Bear Lake's water loss.

Please read the article. Make your own judgement as to why the lake is growing smaller.
